CASE STUDIES

Case Study 1

Ms. T., age 28, has noticed urgency, frequency, and dysuria recently, as well as an unusual odor to the urine. Urinalysis indicated a heavy concentration of E. coli in the urine, some pus, and WBCs.

Ms. T. treatment plan included increased fluid intake (2 – 3 liters/day) and was as a prescription for antibiotics.

Ms. T. was adherent to the treatment plan for the first three days. Her symptoms were greatly reduced, so she decided to stop taking the antibiotics and reduce her fluid intake.

However, within a few days the symptoms returned but she decided to “just live with it.”
